While there are many types of tints, including those for car windows, architecture film is designed for homes and offices, as well as buildings.  This type of product is made to provide many different types of functions. People often buy architecture film in order to provide privacy, security, safety, and protection for the contents of the building, for health reasons, or a combination of all of these reasons.

There are differences between the types of tints used in vehicles and those used in homes, with one being the laws that govern the tinted windows.  Vehicles have specific laws in each state that describe whether or not tinting can be done to car windows, which windows may have the tint, and the visible light transmission percentage, or VLT%.  However, there are no such laws on the books concerning products such as architecture film that is designed for home use.  One of the biggest reasons is that a vehicle must maintain enough VLT% for the driver to safely have a visual line of sight.  Also, a vehicle with tinted windows that are too dark can be a danger for a law enforcement officer, who needs to be able to see inside.

There are products that can be put on the windows to keep the infrared light out, so that the room does not get hotter.  These products allow the natural sunlight to come through, but cause the infrared rays to bounce off, keeping the area much cooler. There are also some materials that can be put on the windows that will cause the harmful rays to bounce off.  This can offer some protection to precious pieces of art, wood furniture, leather, upholstered items, and valuable carpets.  The sun’s rays can cause fading, chipping, peeling, and splitting in different types of woods and canvases, as well as carpet fibers. Some architecture film is designed to simply cut down on the amount of light that comes through the window.  This is known as a shading effect, and is used when there may be glare caused by too much light, making it difficult to see computer screens or televisions.

There are also various types of architecture film that can be purchased to provide privacy.  These have different levels of VLT% and can be either completely darkened or a shaded to a degree of darkness.  This keeps prying eyes from seeing into the home or office. Some people opt for this type of product on the windows of their home or office as an added deterrent to burglars and thieves.  Because this product is adhered to the windows, it makes the window much more difficult to break.  This might be enough to make a burglar turn and run, without making another attempt.  This also serves to keep all of the pieces of glass together in the event that the window is broken in a burglary attempt, storm, or from an errant object that may end up piercing the glass.

There are different types of products to do different jobs, and can be a welcomed improvement around the home, office, or other type of building.
