Purchasing Dark Tint For Windows

BlackOut

It is possible to purchase a very dark tint for use on windows in the home or office.  This type of film is available for vehicles, but in most states it is not legal to apply.  The shading effect of a film is measured by the amount of light that is able to come through it.  The lower the VLT or the visible light transmission percentage, the less light can come through.  Most films range from fifty to five percent of VLT.   Extremely dark tint is usually a five percent VLT.

Some commercial vehicles such as those driven by limousine companies opt for the dark tint because it provides privacy.  Their customers expect to be incognito while riding in a limousine, bus, town car or van.  Some metropolitan transit buses also opt for the heavily shaded windows to protect those inside from damaging UV rays.

Plenty of law enforcement vehicles that are used for prisoner transportation also have film on their windows to the point that it is impossible to see inside the automobile.  This is for security and safety purposes.  In addition, it is often common that more than one vehicle with shaded windows will travel together so it is not known which one is carrying the inmate, depending on the circumstances.

Some people wish to use film in their homes too.  It can be applied to windows that are not needed to provide light.  This can afford both privacy and security.  Homes that are located in larger cities often sit close together.  This could be one reason why a home owner would opt for this type of blackening film.  This type of film also can be used to discourage criminals.  Often if a criminal cannot see inside a home or a vehicle, they will move on.  If they aren’t sure what is inside, it may make them unsure if it is worth the risk to break in.  Dark tint works extremely well as a deterrent.  Of course, if a criminal was to break the glass that has film applied to it, the film itself can work as a deterrent because it makes it more difficult to break the windows.  Even if the window does break, the glass will not scatter about as easily, which makes it safer for instances where shards of glass could simply become a danger.

Other people opt for dark tint for their vehicle or home because it keeps out the infrared sunlight that causes excessive heating.  This works to keep a home, office or vehicle cooler in direct sunlight and can also keep valuables safe from exposure to the sun light. The sun’s rays can cause furniture to dry out and split and it can also cause fading on flooring and wallpaper.  It can ruin expensive art work and has no problem dehydrating nice, quality leather.

Before opting for any type of window film, it is important to realize that while there are no laws governing the degree of shading applied to the windows in a home, there are laws concerning its application on cars.  It is advisable for the consumer to check out any restrictions that may apply prior to making the purchase of this type of product.
