Often, a home or office may wish to install window film for privacy.  This gives a sense of protection, as well as shields the occupants from prying eyes.  A home or an office that includes a lot of panes of glass can make it difficult to be able to achieve some sense of confidentiality.   This is especially true for people who live in an environment such as a large metropolitan area, where buildings tend to be closer to each other.  This can cause some uncertainty, because it is usually possible to see clearly into a building next door, due to the close proximity.

Of course, one of the main decisions that will need to be made concerning window film for privacy is which areas will require the tinting, and what type of tinting will be necessary.  There are many different shades from which to choose.  Each one is assigned a rating based on the VLT percentage, or the visible light transmission percentage.  The lower the number, the less light is allowed to come in via the product.  For a vehicle, the visible light transmission percentage is usually recommended to be at fifty percent.  This darkens the glass somewhat, but still allows for people inside the vehicle to be identified.

There are laws that govern vehicles, but this is not the case for homes or office buildings.  The VLT percentage is then solely left up to the preferences of the occupant.  The lowest number, which is a rating of one percent VLT, nearly renders the glass dark enough to be considered blackened out. This is great for the occupant, who may have a window that they really do not want to have removed, but they also want to make sure that no one can see in or out.  This is also quite helpful for the home or business owner that may want to use the panes of glass again in the future.

Another reason that a home or office building would choose window film for privacy would be to ensure that there is a heightened sense of safety.   It also tends to serve as a deterrent if the contents of a vehicle, home, or office cannot easily be seen by potential criminals, who may be deciding on whether or not they want to burglarize the premises.

Another reason that some people would opt for window film for privacy issues would be to cover areas internally within the home or office.  Many older homes often feature doors that have large panes of glass, such as French doors.  Sometimes, office doors consist of some sort of material that frames large panes of glass.  Rather than remove the doors, it makes more sense to add window film for privacy.  This can turn a door that was once transparent into a solidly darkened door, depending on the VLT percentage that is selected.

This is a very inexpensive and effective way to alter the view that those outside of the home, office, or even within the premises have through the panes of glass.
