When preparing for a do-it-yourself window sunscreening, some may wonder what tint tools are necessary to get the job done right.  If the project is done without the proper gear, the covering may end up having not so pleasing results.  Some of the problems that can occur due to not having the right types of gear can include bubbles, peeling, discoloration, chipping, and streaking.  These things will make the window look less than professional and will most likely have to be redone.  That can turn into a very costly endeavor.  Fortunately, it does not have to be that way.  By taking the time to find out what tint tools are needed, putting the film on the window can be a snap.

The first of the tint tools that will be needed is a strong window cleaner that does not contain ammonia.  This is an important step because the surface must be extremely clean in order to apply the film to the window.  There are many brands of window cleaners available, and not all of them contain ammonia.  Check the label to be sure.  It is not necessary to buy a commercial grade cleaner.  It is important to note that the windows should not be cleaned with vinegar either.  This hampers the adhesive process of the film.  Once the cleaner has been obtained, each window has to be thoroughly cleaned and dried with paper towels or clean rags.

The next piece of equipment that is necessary is a tape measure.  Each window must be measured to find out the size.  It is wise to add about an inch all the way around the window and then cut the film according to these measurements.

The next step is to make sure that the film is lying flat before removing the backing.  It is a good idea to ask for help during this step, otherwise it could end up becoming stuck together.  This would render that piece useless.  The next in the tint tools line should be a spray bottle filled with soapy water.  Dishwashing detergent will be fine.  Shampoo can also be used.  When using the spray bottle, it is important to wet the film on the adhesive side as well as wetting the glass.  This allows the film to not stick immediately to the window.  This is important when putting it up as it allows for adjustments to be made if necessary before it completely adheres.

A squeegee is the next of the tint tools that will be necessary.  The squeegee will be used to flatten out the film on the window and take away any air bubbles that may be trapped.  It will also remove the water that was sprayed onto the glass upon application of the film.

The last of the pieces of equipment that is necessary is a razor knife.  The blade will be used to cut off the excess film once it is satisfactorily in place and looks good.  This is basically all there is to it!  This is all of the equipment that is necessary to get the job done right.
