When it comes to window tint for an auto, the lower the percentage the number is, the darker the glass will become.  While the scale is rather confusing because it is seemingly backward, one hundred percent is no shading at all and fifty percent would be much darker.  There are many reasons why a vehicle owner may opt for this type of treatment to the windows.  There is also a lot of information that must be gathered before making the final choice.

The first thing to be concerned about when opting for window tint for an auto is whether or not it is legal in the state in which the owner resides.  Each state in the union has different laws concerning this subject.  There are also portions of the laws in the states that do allow it that restrict which windows can be treated.  Some allow only the side windows while others only allow the back glass.  There are a handful of states that do not allow any type of shading at all.  These laws were devised to protect law enforcement officials.  When making a stop, it is necessary for them to see the passengers inside and what they are doing for the safety of everyone involved.  Another reason these laws were passed and enacted was driver safety.  If a product has a mirrored effect, it could blind oncoming traffic.  If it is too dark, it is incredibly difficult to see through at night.  This could lead to traffic accidents and so laws were created to avoid this problem.

The next thing that a vehicle owner would need to decide is what the reason is for opting for this type of product.  If they are looking for protection against ultraviolet rays that fade the seat covers and dash, nearly all products on the market today have this feature built into them.  If they have any tinting at all, then they are rated to reduce the UV and infrared rays by nearly one hundred percent.  Of course it is always a good idea to ask about the VLT or the visible light transmission of the product and if it indeed will block UV rays.  Window tint for an auto also can cool the interior of the vehicle.  It can keep it up to sixty percent cooler while being parked in the hot sun.  Of course this also saves money because the more the air conditioner has to work, the more gasoline is used.

When looking at the tint for an auto in percentages, this is how they can be translated.  In the industry, limo tinting is considered to be five percent and this is almost completely blacked out.  When talking about twenty percent, this is extremely dark but one can still see through it.  The medium for shading is considered to be thirty five percent and extremely light is fifty percent.

Once the owner knows which type and percentage of tint for an auto are legal as far as the shading, the legality and placement are concerned, the vehicle owner can choose the color that looks best.
