A popular trend for motorists is to add automobile tinting to the windows of their vehicles.  This is done to allow for a proper amount of protection from sunlight. It will help drivers to be able to see more effectively on bright, sunny days and keep the car or truck cooler inside.  Keeping a vehicle cooler not only saves gasoline by not having to run the air conditioner as much, but it can also help to save the upholstery and the various dash components from cracking.  It also stops would be criminals from being able to see in the windows.

Before a vehicle owner opts for automobile tinting, there are various laws and regulations to be aware of which differ from state to state.  The laws that apply to a specific area can be obtained by contacting local law enforcement, the department of motor vehicles, or the department of transportation in the state where the vehicle owner resides.  Some of the laws that apply to automobile tinting include which windows of the vehicle can have film applied to them.  Some states will not allow the windshield to have film and other states do not allow any windows to be darkened.  Most of the guidelines in states that allow some degree of shading involve limitations concerning the film.  Each degree of darkness in film is assigned a percentage or VLT, and then the law speaks to which visible light transmission percentage is allowed.

The biggest reason for the guidelines put into place for automobile tinting is for the safety of law enforcement officials.  If an officer cannot see how many passengers are in a vehicle or whether or not they have a weapon, the officer could be in danger of being harmed.

It is also widely viewed as a personalized accessory for a car, truck or van.  Many people like the idea of making their vehicle different from all others.  It is a way to give a touch of style and individualization to the vehicle used for transportation each day.

Of course, some types of professions have a heightened anonymity factor attached to them such as those in the music world or show business.  The reasons that these individuals choose shading for their windows are to avoid recognition.  Many times it is difficult for people who are famous to go out in public without the distraction of being stopped by fans.  Shaded glass allows them to have some privacy.

Those wishing to apply this type of film to cars, trucks or vans can hire a professional company to install it or they can purchase kits that contain instructions and tools to do the job as a project at home.

The shading is available in different hues and different degrees of darkness.  The choice is often made through careful consideration of the laws in the state, the reason for the shading, and the price point of the film.  While there may be many reasons for someone opting for automobile tinting, it is definitely a trend that is here to stay.
